What ‘s “Crab”? It’s the personal concept of an artistic-technologic urban vehicle designed by Andrea Filogonio for the chaotic megapolis of tomorrow. Crab’s design melts Art Noveau-inspired shapes to a real crab concept : Art Noveau for its elegance and sense of surfaces while a living crab for the freedom to move everywhere and in any direction. Moreover, its shell is very hard and protective.
Now, leap forward and apply all that we’ve just said to the megalopolis of tomorrow: very busy, but with environmental awareness, luxury accustomed, socially involved and technologically advanced. “Crab” is elegant, shiny, customizable, comfortable, and safe. A small car for all the people with three wheels drive. The cabin is suspended and cushioned by an electrical field generated in the two chassis arms. So it’s floating and not linked to the chassis, giving a soft response for better comfort. When the car is parked it’s strongly attached to the chassis.
Each wheel has its electrical engine, linked externally to the suspension, so that every engine is at the same time: engine, suspension, brake, steering. All driven by wire. The large back sphere is the main steering device when the car is moving. In the parking-mode, the little spheres on the two front wheels allow you to move perpendicularly to the road.
When needed, the same system allows you to run light off-road increasing car height, to go to the beach, for example, using 3 wheels drive. You can adjust your car height and suspension stiffness, to increase its performance.

Once in position, the handle is lowered up to the horizontal position, which opens the valves of the pneumatic pistons, opening the trolley’s arms and spreading the fabric.
When the fabric is full, with the help from the handle, air will be pumped into the pneumatic pistons making the arms come back in the vertical position, it’s time when the fabric will be tied as a sack.

The futuristic Enigma car project is intended to represent the height of automotive exclusivity. You could argue that the only thing that separates one Veyron or Phantom from the other is the color and trim that the first owner specifies from new, whereas with Enigma, the patination of the bronze on the roof of the car would develop with the owner over time. When the car is sold to its next owner, it would be taken back to the factory, the body panels removed and would be retained as a piece of automotive sculpture for their beautiful landscaped gardens. The next owner would get a new piece of bronze to start their own story. Paul Howse, the designer, really wanted it to be like a sculpture on wheels, a work of art. Musiker
Luxury doesn’t have to mean expense or extravagance. Moreover, in the fragility of 21st century consumerism, exclusivity could go much further, where its perceptual value increases over time and through an experience of the product. Just as classic watches and historic cars develop a story and history over time, the owner of a vehicle should feel this experience. A patination of material such as bronze, that is hand-crafted or develops over time and is unique to each ownership situation would bring a valid ‘local quality’ that could be argued as being lost in today’s globalized world.

Ryan Skelley conceived the concept of The Sunbeam Tiger during his Transportation Design course on Coventry University. It is an electric drivetrain with a pack of lithium-titanate battery which takes fewer times to charge than a lithium-ion battery. A fully charged battery can last around 4 hours along with the discretionary 3-phase charger which have made the maximum range of this car around 800 miles.Skelley has shown theoretically that the car can go 0-60 mph within 2.3 seconds and the top speed would be just around 160 mph.

The Tomahawk is a Viper V-10 based motorcycle, a 500 horsepower engine with four wheels beneath it. The engine breathes through twin throttle bodies mounted right up front. The Tomahawk concept is an awesome-sounding machine. Clouds of blue smoke vied for attention with the throaty rumble of the mighty V-10, and hitting the gas visibly opened the twin throttle body blades up front where the headlight would normally be. Though deeper and more rumbling than most motorcycles, it did not seem to be louder overall – just deeper and less shrill.
The Dodge Tomahawk can reach 60 miles an hour in about 2.5 seconds, and has a theoretical top speed of nearly 400 mph. Each pair of wheels is separated by a few inches and each wheel has an independent suspension. Bernhard said four wheels were necessary to handle the power from the engine.

I’ve been enjoying driving from the moment I learned how to drive a car. I used to enjoy my daily morning drive to work when I was still an employee. Fresh air in the morning, not so crowded street, listening to soft music from the radio, a perfect 20 minutes alone. Due to rapid population growth, driving in the future might create more frustration than joy, especially in overcrowded cities. People will either use high-tech vehicles or public transport. The feeling of individual mobility, however, contributes a lot to the impression of freedom enjoyed by many motorists.
Created in cooperation with Audi AG, the Audi RH Concept carries Audi’s brand values. RH promotes enjoyable driving experience, a compact and lightweight transportation for the year of 2015. This car has been designed to carry only 2 passengers in a very narrow space (3.2 meters long). The interior features minimalist design. The driver seat is located in the middle of the vehicle and the second seat for the passenger is located behind. This increases the feeling of narrowness, which strongly contributes to the driving experience.

So you think junior is a little too lead-footed when he drives the family car? Starting next year, Ford Motor Co. will give you the power to do something about it.
The company will roll out a new feature on many 2010 models that can limit teen drivers to 80 mph, using a computer chip in the key.
Parents also have the option of programming the teen’s key to limit the audio system’s volume, and to sound continuous alerts if the driver doesn’t wear a seat belt.
“Our message to parents is, hey, we are providing you some conditions to give your new drivers that may allow you to feel a little more comfortable in giving them the car more often,” said Jim Buczkowski, Ford’s director of electronic and electrical systems engineering.
The feature, called “MyKey,” will be standard on an unspecified number of Ford models when the 2010 cars and trucks come out late next summer. The feature will spread to the entire Ford, Lincoln and Mercury lineup as models are updated, spokesman Wes Sherwood said.
Ford arrived at the 80 mph limit even though freeway speed limits are lower in most states because it wanted to leave a margin in case an unusual situation arises, Buczkowski said. In some states, freeway speed limits are above 70 mph, Sherwood said.
“Just lopping it off at exactly 70 mph was felt to be too limiting,” Buczkowski said.
The company already uses computer chips in its keys to prevent thefts. The car won’t start unless it recognizes the chip in the key.
“It’s making use of existing technology, and through the magic of software, we’re able to build features on top of the features we already have,” Buczkowski said.
In addition to speed limits, MyKey also will limit the volume of the audio system, and it will sound a six-second chime every minute if seat belts are not fastened. The chime sounds for adult drivers, too, but ends after five minutes to avoid annoying adults who adamantly don’t want to wear seat belts, Buczkowski said.
Parents also have the option of having the car sound a chime if the teen exceeds 45, 55 or 65 mph.
Ford said its market research shows 75 percent of parents like the speed and audio limits, but as you might expect, 67 percent of teens don’t like them.
Danisha Williams, a 16-year-old senior at Southfield-Lathrup High School in suburban Detroit, said she’s against the idea.
“I wouldn’t want my parents to have that much control over how I’m driving,” she said. “If your parents are holding your hand, you’re never going to learn.”
Brittany Hawthorne, 17, another Southfield-Lathrup senior, said there may be emergency situations where she’d have to drive more than 80, possibly to accelerate to avoid a crash.
Ford’s research shows that parents would be more likely to let teens use their vehicles with the system, Sherwood said, and if it gets them the car more often, the number of teens objecting drops by nearly half.
A top official from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a research group funded by the auto insurance industry that is pushing to raise the minimum driving age to 17 or 18, found the key intriguing. IIHS says car crashes are the leading cause of death among teenagers.

The noises and speculations are too high to ignore the presence of Apple’s Tablet. If all the rumors are authentic and, if by all means, Apple launches the iSlate on 25th January, then it’s going to be the thing to talk about in 2010.

Apple will give iPhone 4 users a free case for their smartphones to help them with antenna and reception problems, even though those issues have been reported by just a fraction of the phone’s users, CEO Steve Jobs said Friday during a press conference the company called at its headquarters to discuss ongoing issues with the smartphone.
Users who buy the new version of the iPhone by Sept. 30 will be able to sign up on the Apple website to receive a free case — or “bumper” — starting late next week. Users who already bought bumpers will receive refunds, he said. “And if you’re still not happy, before or after you get a free case, you can bring your iPhone 4 back undamaged within 30 days for a full refund.”

Computer gaming magazine PC Zone is set to shut down after it releases its 225th issue on 2 September 2010, the BBC News reported on Wednesday.
Launched 17 years ago, PC Zone was the UK’s first ever magazine dedicated to PC gaming.
The magazine was founded after multi-format games magazine Zero dissolved, using Zero’s staff as the backbone for the new PC gaming magazine. The magazine saw its best days during the 1990s, when PC gaming industry was at its peak.
Renegade PR’s Tim Ponting, PC Zone’s first publisher, said that at the beginning, no-one wanted to publish it.
“At the time, the received wisdom was that no one would buy it. But it was a huge success, and the humour followed the legacy left by Zero magazine. It was public schoolboy, very clever, holier-than-thou, but it worked,” said Ponting.
According to its last audit the magazine, which is currently owned by Future Publishing, was selling around 11,000 copies in a month.

Journalists poured into Apple’s headquarters this morning for a surprise press conference, at which Apple will discuss issues with the iPhone 4 antenna that have been plaguing the gadget.
As Jobs takes the stage, he began his announcement by unveiling a 15 minute presentation — but Jobs promised that he would answer everyone’s questions shortly. In the presentation, Jobs demonstrated similar reception issues with other smart phones, notably the Blackberry Bold 9700 and a Samsung smartphone.
The message is clear: Cell phone reception is a challenge for the entire industry.
Apple detailed for journalists its cell phone testing facility, a futuristic environment that Jobs said contained “17 anechoic chambers.”
Apple, which surprised consumers and investors by announcing the iPhone 4 press conference earlier this week, has kept mum on what it will do. But analysts are betting that — despite a poor review from Consumer Report and growing user complaints — it will not initiate a costly and embarrassing recall.
Apple is likely to instead announce a fix for the iPhone 4′s reception problems on Friday rather than recall the device, hoping to stem a growing chorus of complaints and avert any lasting damage to its carefully earned reputation for quality products.
